Spousal and Child Support
In a divorce in Manitoba, the amount of child support is typically determined according to the provisions and tables of the Manitoba Child Support Guidelines, or if either parent resides outside Manitoba, according to the Federal Divorce Act.
The Child Support Guidelines help to calculate the monthly child support payment, taking into account the annual gross income of the party who is obliged to provide support and the number of minor children of the marriage who must be supported.
In addition to the basic needs of the child, child support may, if it's considered necessary and reasonable, cover some extraordinary costs like medical expenses over $100 per year above insurance coverage and extraordinary educational expenses, including post-secondary education or extracurricular activities.
